SCRATCH'N'CUT - Starring Ricky Martin Luther King Kong

Wer noch nicht bei SCRATCH'N'CUT war, um Art of Interdisciplinary Remix zu feiern, sollte sich nicht von diesem kryptischen Terminus davon abhalten lassen. Interwas? habe ich mich zuerst gefragt und wären mir nicht die Namen wie Lil' Wei Wei, Tyra Banksy und Muhammad Dalí aufgefallen, hätte ich mir wohl nie die Mühe gemacht herauszufinden, worum zur Hölle es eigentlich geht.


MADE (hat nix mit dem Schmuck zu tun) wurde gegründet, um Kunstschaffenden verschiedener Bereiche eine Plattform zu geben, sodass neue Projekte entstehen. So hat beispielsweise der Komponist Mihalj “MIKI” Kekenj die Songs von Aloe Blacc klassisch vertont, wovon sich Maler Jaybo zu einem Gemälde hat inspirieren lassen. Das Ergebnis war wirklich erstaunlich und obwohl ich nicht live dabei gewesen bin, hat mich die Dokumentation total beeindruckt. SCRATCH'N'CUT ist also eine Ausstellung, in der ebenfalls die Grenzen der gängingen Kunstbereiche überschritten werden. Es geht darum den kreativen Prozess des Remixens zu zelebrieren. Den Besucher erwartet ein buntes Sammelsurium an allen möglichen Artefakten, die zweckentfremdet zusammengefügt wurden. Die auditive Kulisse ist natürlich ein Remix verschiedener Musikrichtungen, der das Sichtbare hörbar zu machen scheint. Es ist ganz verrückt, trotz der scheinbar wahllosen Ansammlung irgendwelcher Dinge, wirken die Exponate nicht wie Ramsch, der lediglich im Weg rumsteht, sondern fügen sich zusammen in eine Art psychedelisches Fantasieland.

An der Konzeptionierung und Umsetzung der Ausstellung beteiligt ist übrigens Lee "Scratch" Perry, der als Koryphäe des Remix gilt. Das Künstler-Kollektiv Eclectic Method, das in seinen Shows Ausschnitte aus Musikstücken in Kombination mit Filmsequenzen in Szene setzt, ist ebenfalls dabei. Außerdem hat der Argentinier Daniel Gonzales mitgewirkt. Er ist vor allem für seine großflächige Installationen bekannt. Jonas Liveröd aus Schweden, der irgendwie alles zu Kunst verwurstet, vervollständigt das Team.

Die Ausstellung hat noch bis zum 28. November geöffnet.

If you haven't been to SCRATCH'N'CUT to Celebrate The Art of Interdisciplinary Remix yet, don't let this cofusing term keep you. Inter-what? is what I was asking myself at first and if it weren't for names such as Lil' Wei Wei, Tyra Banksy and Muhammad Dalí, I wouldn't have bothered to find out what the hell these guys were talking about.


MADE (no resemblence to the jewellery) was founded to provide artists from different disciplines with a platform to create new projects. For example did the composer Mihalj “MIKI” Kekenj interpret Aloe Blacc's songs into classical music compositions which inspired the artist Jaybo to paint an art piece. The outcome was truly amazing and even though I couldn't experience it live, just seeing the documentary had me totally impressed. SCRATCH'N'CUT is an exhbition that leaves the boundaries of the established artistic disciplines behind. The aim is to celebrate the creative process of remixing. Awaiting the visitor is a potpourri of various artifacts that seem to be randomly put together. The auditory setting is of course a remix of different musical genres which melodizes the visuals. The crazy thing is that, despite the random and weird chaos, the exhibits don't look displaced but seem to build a new, fantastic landscape.

Part of the concept and the implementation was Lee "Scratch" Perry, who is apparently by far the greatest luminary of remix. The artist duo Eclectic Method whose shows display a mix of snippets in combination with cutscenes, also participated. So did the Argentinian Daniel Gonzales. He is mostly known for his extensive installation art. Jonas Liveröd, who kinda makes art out of everything, completes the team.

The exhibition is still open until the 28th November.
